From Our Drum Maker Tatito

Tatito works with raw animal hides to create beautiful shamanic drums. He sources his hides from the mountain communities where the animal meat is eaten and the hides would’ve otherwise been thrown away. He sees his drums as more than simple instruments; he honors the animals that have left their physical incarnations and helps them be reborn into spiritual beings that can help connect us to Spirit. No two drums are the same, as each hide is naturally different.

To order a drum, you may select from the available hides that we have in stock, and custom designs (such as Chakanas, Pachamamas, and flowers of life) may be added by request.

From Our Weavers in Huilloc

Making things by hand is an integral part of village culture in the Andes. The tradition of weaving, in particular, serves ritual as well as utilitarian functions. The woven fabrics of the high mountain communities of the Andes are layered with meaning, capturing both the sacred and mundane symbols of Quechua daily life. Using sheep and alpaca wool, natural dyes, and traditional spinning and weaving techniques, the Quechua people place the stories of their lives into these textiles, communicating and preserving important cultural traditions. The patterns and techniques vary per village, and their textiles contain symbols that carry the traditional knowledge of each individual community.

As a way to preserve these traditions and to keep the weaving culture alive, we connect Quechua weavers with a broader market so that they may sell their products at fair-trade prices. 100% of the proceeds from each purchase goes directly to the weaver who created the piece. We are proud to partner with a talented community of weavers that creates such artful products.
