Volunteer

Volunteer in the Sacred Valley of Peru at
Ayllu Wasi Community Center

We are receiving volunteers to join us in the Sacred Valley of Peru on this bioconstruction immersion to bring to life a Quechua-owned community and retreat center, Ayllu Wasi.

We are looking for those interested in learning about bio-construction, permaculture, and the Quechua way of life, to come and weave with us. In addition to the cultural exchange, tent accommodation and traditional meals will be provided in exchange for your help. No previous experience is required, however, we welcome anyone with previous knowledge in these areas to come and co-create this vision with us. We are also looking for those well-versed in videography to help us document the process.

We are so excited to create together - join us in the experience of a lifetime!

  • We only have two tents available to lend. Tents are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If both of our tents are taken, you are responsible for bringing your own tent.

  • Yes. Sleeping gear is not included. You may rent a sleeping bag and mat from us for 50 soles per week.

  • Days in the Valley can get quite warm, with temperatures reaching up to 23°C (75°F) during the day. Because of the high altitude, however, the sun can feel quite strong and so it may feel it is even warmer. Temperatures at night, on the other hand, drop down to about 5°C (40°F), so make sure to bring warm layers for sleeping at night.

  • Clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or potentially ruined.

A mix of shorts and short-sleeved shirts, and long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Layers are your best friend.

Warm layers for nighttime (a warm jacket, beanie, socks, etc).

Work boots (rain boots or hiking boots are usually fine).

    Sleeping bag/mat.

    Towel.

    Sun hat.

Sun block, mosquito repellent, and bio-degradable toiletries only, please.

    Notebook and pens.

    OPTIONAL:

    Work gloves.

Donations for the community (things like clothes, hats, backpacks, vitamins and childen’s toys are always welcome)

  • We have space to receive up to 6 volunteers at once. On any given day, we will have 2 - 6 local folks working with us, in addition to Tatito and Andrea.

  • Our work days are Monday - Thursday, from 8am - 1pm. You are responsible for preparing your own breakfast and being ready for work by 8am. At 8am, we gather in a circle to talk about what needs to be done that day. Right now, we are mostly focused on preparing the land and adobe brick production. In addition to the priority work, there is always an array of different tasks to do on any given day, such as turning the compost, helping in the kitchen, cleaning the bathroom, etc. At 1pm, we close our work day and gather for lunch. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy.

  • Yes. We ask for 50 soles per week from volunteers to help cover our shared food costs. Additional donations are welcome to help the continuation of the project.
